Brush 'm back: More evidence that Christie can beat Corzine

Chris Christie can beat Jon Corzine in November. More hope for change:

A largely overlooked statistic from Tuesday's election is likely occupying much time and evaluation by Governor Corzine's political advisors, as they plan their campaign strategy and tactics.

On Tuesday, the Governor garnered only 77% of his party's primary vote, against 3 unknown, and arguably, kooky candidates.

What is more significant is that he got more than 70% in only 10 counties, almost all of whom have significant minority populations, or in the case of Morris and Atlantic counties, a contested local election in a town with a large minority population.

The Governor's startling under-performance among the Democratic Party's most active and committed suburban voters, in most of the state, home to NJ's suburban swing voters, is the clearest indication that the GOP is right to think this may be their first real opportunity in a decade to win a state-wide election.

Beat Corzine, brush 'em back, scare the Blue Dogs, and throw sand in the gears of the runaway Hope and Change(TM) express.

More along the same lines, with linkage.

Biden has already been here to NJ several times in support of Corzine's reelection bid, and now the Governor apparently has lined up the President to come to New Jersey. As they are saying,

"We're invested in this victory and we're confident of it"-- a "senior Obama administration official".

But what they really mean is,

"Governor Corzine's numbers are not good. They can't allow Governor Corzine to crash because it will be perceived as a failure by President Obama"-- Democrat consultant Hank Sheinkopf as quoted in the Star-Ledger.

I think I hear a bus approaching! If Corzine doesn't improve his numbers soon I wonder if we'll see the Democrats pull his candidacy and substitute someone else who's name isn't so damaged. It's New Jersey, remember, where anything can happen.

Here's the sort of governor I wish we had in NJ- one who has reduced his state's spending in real terms for the first time in history: Tim Pawlenty.
