How fast we've changed

If ever you doubt how fast the world has changed in the last fifteen years, check out this video of Tom Brokaw talking about "something called the Internet." It's from 1994.

I remember first logging on with my Prodigy account 56k modem that for some reason only provided 33k download.
Getting around pre-Google was quite primitive. I remember large telephone sized directories. I think Yahoo started as a web directory in which hundreds, probably thousands, of people developed on-line directories by hand.
Oh and webrings, I'd forgotten about those; they were handy.
I made my first web page with Geocities, last time I checked (about 10 years ago) it was still up, I've forgotten the URL so I can't check now. Forgive me for rambling but this is how I am when I get nostalgic.

I am an American living in the Philippines. When you post videos on Hula we are not able too see them.

There's a scene in Steve McQueen's Bullitt (1968) where they spend a whole five minutes showing the wonder of sending a grainy photo of a criminal over a phone modem.

Ah, the memories of using a Perkins-Elmer hardcopy terminal and a 300 baud modem to check my mail. I don't miss it a bit.
