McCain/Cantor?

This is the most interesting idea I've heard for John McCain's running mate yet. Eric Cantor, a Jewish Congressman from Richmond, is right on the long war, will blunt the risk that Virginia turns blue, and will be (as nearly as I can tell) an articulate spokesman for the Republicans. He will also drive the Obama campaign crazy. Why? Because there will be the constant risk that an Obama surrogate will, wittingly or not, mention Cantor's Jewishness or support for Israel in a way that will seem enormously hypocritical given the campaign's hair-trigger response to statements that might be construed by a post-modernist critical legal studies scholar as racist.

I have a standing bet with my friends that McCain will select a VP for no other reason than to cheese me and the rest of the conservatives off. I understand Ted Stevens is available.

Don't know Cantor and that might limit McCain's being able to attack Hussein on the basis of his lack of experience and his flash-in-the-panedness.
McCain can't pick a good solid conservative if for no other reason that there are so few of us around. Too conservative and the charges of "too much like Bush" crazies will rally.
I'd like to see a good woman who would attract the Hillary supporters. Condlezza Rice would be good and so would Senator Hutchinson. Remember, McCain's VP WILL be president!

Condoleeza Rice? No thank you. After four years of being a middle to poor manager of the State Dept., she should not be rewarded with the Vice - Presidency.
Kay Bailey Hutchinson? Why not a bowl of oatmeal?

Sarah Palin? Yes! "Why, she's too young and inexperienced!" Younger and MORE experienced than BHO. The Democrats dare not use THAT against her.

But as has been said, 'Maverick' McCain will do something to infuriate his base in the selection of a running mate.

I know Eric and he's a good guy and a solid conservative. If he has any glaring fault, it is that he is a rising star in a party that has not exactly done a 'stellar" job over the past few years. His vote against the reversal of the 10% Medicare cuts to physicians pissed me off (as it did MANY people), but it was the party line. Physicians don't seem to have too many friends in the government nowadays (...that's why we are all retiring early).

Back on topic...he's a solid, but relatively unknown candidate.

My take is that McCain will be really, really tempted to do something wild that would completely change the tenor of the election - Sarah Palin! Eric Cantor! Meg Whitman! - but ultimately will pick Mitt Romney.

And lose.
