Notes from the road

The country between Minneapolis and Rice Lake, Wisconsin (the territory north and west of Eau Claire) really is some of the most beautiful farmland in America, at least at this time of year. The hills roll, the hay piles up in bales on the fields, cows munch away, and the barns and silos all look just as you would hope and expect them to.

I agree about Western Wisconsin. I am visiting Eau Claire; my wife is a native. It's even more beautiful in winter!

I've been there in winter, too! Pre AGW. Really, really, cold.

Colder than a landlord's heart in two months.

We don't like it much, but we will let a Hawkeye into Badger country and try to be civil. But, don't say nuttin' about Princeton!

Just did the drive from the Twin Cities down to Rochester. Some very lovely scenery. I like the barn designs a lot, and had to ask a local about the Elk Farm. Quite cool.

I've also driven the width of Iowa, which was similarly beautiful, with a late evening/last light storm on the horizon.
