Clintonian hubris
Bill Clinton is describing journalist Todd Purdum as "sleazy," "slimy," and a "scumbag." Why, exactly, Bill Clinton thinks it is ever in his interest to use sleaze-oriented words is beyond me, but self-reflection has never been his strong suit.
In any case, this line, if true, is the thigh-slapper of the week:
But Clinton continued. "He can't help it," he said. "He still hasn't apologized to me for Whitewater."
I have to admit, that's the first time I recall reading that Todd Purdum, formerly of The New York Times, was responsible for Whitewater. Did Nixon go to his grave waiting for an apology from Woodward and Bernstein? Nope, because he was too introspective.

, atBeyond simple irony, the language is both unbecoming a President (even of his calibre) and actual does a very adequate job of describing Clinton.
, atSo the press can present a biased view of politicians! Who knew?

Purdum's a fellow Princetonian (Class of 1982) and a really good guy. Clinton's probably angry because Purdum got his story right. I like your post, because for Clinton to call someone else sleazy is somewhat hilarious.
