Angelina Jolie's big guns

If you did not think Angelina Jolie was an impressive, er, mother already, this news puts her over the top:

Angelina Jolie has a gun - and she's not afraid to use it.

The pregnant mother of four told the U.K.'s Daily Mail that she owns guns similar to the ones she used in "Tomb Raider." Jolie and partner Brad Pitt are not against having weapons in their house for security reasons, she says.

"If anybody comes into my home and tries to hurt my kids, I've no problem shooting them," she said.

No concealed carry law necessary, I'd say.

PISTOL PACKIN MAMA DONT LAY YOUR PISTOL DOWN

I wonder what she thinks of the ordinary citizen owning guns. It is, after all, a tenet of liberalism that regular people (but not the liberal elite) shouldn't have guns, and as I recall she's pretty reliably liberal.

By Blogger TigerHawk, at Mon Jun 02, 06:10:00 AM:

Actually, randian, my sense is that she is a lot smarter (at age 32) than most Hollywood types ever get, at least in the sense that she is able to think outside the talking points from Left-Wing High Command. I can't remember what she has said exactly, but I seem to recall reading some intelligent oout-of-the-box stuff she has said.

I'm heading to LA to break into the Pitt-Jolie residence immediately. I anxiously await the spectacle of Ms. Jolie unleashing her guns on me. Yeah buddy.

"she's pretty reliably liberal"

Nope. Both Jolie and Pitt reportedly are fans of Ayn Rand's works. In fact, Jolie is slated to play the role of Dagny Taggart in the planned movie "Atlas Shrugged."

Rand advocated rational individualism and laissez-faire capitalism. Rand probably brought more people into the libertarian movement than anybody else.

Many people in the entertainment industry are libertarians, not limp-wristed, big-government liberals. But folks outside Hollywood seldom notice.

By Blogger Dawnfire82, at Mon Jun 02, 11:54:00 AM:

That because the limp-wristed liberals are the ones who constantly crow absurdities, like how they'll be leaving the country if Republicans win an election.

I purposefully avoid most elements of pop culture because I find it to be odious, but whenever I have noticed a political statement by Ms. Jolie I remember going, "wow, I didn't expect that. She may be crazy, but she may not be stupid."

TH-

While it's admirable that you believe Angelina is somehow smarter than the Left-On High liberal types in Hollywood, she and her daddy Jon Voight have been at odds heavy because Jonny boy is ultra conservative.

So, how smart can she truly be if she doesn't even listen to daddy? LOL

By Blogger randian, at Mon Jun 02, 02:50:00 PM:

If she really is a libertarian, I stand corrected. The reason people outside Hollywood seldom notice any libertarians in Hollywood is because its public figures so rarely are. Conservatives and libertarians really are subject to being shut out of Hollywood if that fact becomes public.

By Blogger D.E. Cloutier, at Mon Jun 02, 03:45:00 PM:

"shut out of Hollywood if that fact becomes public."

That's a myth. I had a home in Beverly Hills for 15 years. I managed a major entertainment attraction in Southern California. I have many friends who are producers and studio executives in the motion picture industry. Most of them are libertarians.

If you look closely, you will notice that a lot of Hollywood movies ("First Blood," "The Bourne Identity," etc.) are actually "antigovernment" movies. The government is the bad guy. In other words, the movies are libertarian.

Remember, liberals usually like big government. (In many cases, the big-government liberals in Hollywood came out of New York.)

Yes, many actors and actresses are liberals. But they are just the hired help.

Re: "...her daddy Jon Voight have been at odds heavy because Jonny boy is ultra conservative."

That wasn't the reason. Voight said in a TV interview that his daughter had emotional problems. He pissed her off. (It was around the time of her divorce from Thornton.)

Besides, she said she called Voight not long ago.

dec - Many movies are anti-government, but not really libertarian. The point pushed is more likely to be "government screwed this up", or "we have evil people in government", or "if only we could get the right people in government", or "we have to change government", more often than it is about the inherent problems of governments controlling so much of society and the economy no matter who is in power.

The actors and actresses may be "hired help", but they are high priced and influential hired help (at least the top tier is), and directors, writers, etc. also tend to have some bias to the liberal side of the spectrum. Meanwhile the studios, and other big money backers of movies tend to be more about making more money, than they are about pushing a political agenda, and to the extent they are pushing any political agenda its hardly a consistently libertarian one.

Thank you for your well-thought-out comment, Tim, and your careful usage of "more likely," "more often," and "tend."

On second reading I see no reason to make adjustments to my comment.
