Niger, "yellowcake," and the Wilsons
If you still believe that Joseph Wilson is an honest guy and that it was the Bush administration that "lied," you owe it to yourself at least to read Stephen Hayes'6 Comments:
, at
The part that leads off into the weeds is if you believe Wilson when he says 'I saw the documents, and they were obvious forgeries.'
1) They weren't in US hands then - only the French and Italians had them.
2) He was recommended by his wife in part due to his extensive French contacts.
3) He met with the French Ambassador while he was in Nigeria.
Crazy. But so is this whole case.

Pour Moi?
I'll give it a read when I get a break from work. I'm thinking we'll all be talking a lot about this subject over the next several indictment-strewn weeks.

Actually, Screwy, it was pour vous! And, of course, Catchy and Uptown.

Oh I'm so glad you put that up! I am still pouring over it. It's a read-at-least-twice piece, isn't it?

Yes, Cassandra, it's completely freaking exhausting! I've read the article once, and there's a lot to chew on in there.
I have a couple of things to say... One - Is there anyone else but Hayes who narrates events this way?
Let's say that Hayes is one hundred percent on the money. I think that he editorializes a great deal, but let's just say his story is the capital 'T' truth.
If Wilson's a lying slimeball with a vendetta against the administration, an eye for publicity, and a talent for telling inartful lies, I still wonder the political justification in leaking to reporters that his wife is an undercover CIA operative working on WMD.
If a sliming liar tells sliming lies about you, then you refute those lies with facts and move forward.
The administration gave information in the SOTU on shaky intelligence (the same intelligence they relied on to drive us into war) with the knowledge that it had not been confirmed. Wilson, the sliming liar, contended that the administration knew the intelligence was untrue. In fact, they just knew that it was unconfirmed. The administration, in response to the sliming liar, told reporters he was a sliming liar and that his wife was an undercover CIA operative working on WMD?
It doesn't add up. And the ensuing appearance of conspiratorial cover-up doesn't make it any less stinky.
I appreciate your posting this article and giving me some good information to sort through, Hawk. However, even if Wilson is the worst kind of pathological, Bush-hating, sociopathic asshole, our administration has no business undermining our national security.
It's inexcusable.

Screwy, I don't disagree that if somebody knew that Valerie Plame was a clandestine agent and leaked her name nonetheless, they should get whacked for it. I hope we eventually learn what happened.
