The mysterious death of Brig. Gen. Ghazi Kenaan

Regular readers will recall how skeptical we were to read last week that Syria's Brig. Gen. Ghazi Kenaan, a suspect in the Valentine's Day massacre of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri, had committed suicide. As we pointed out at the time, how many people carefully screw on a silencer before whacking themselves?

It now seems that there are journalists even in the Arab media who have their doubts. From yesterday's Dar Al-Hayat:
The young Syrian female correspondent of an Arabic-language TV network said that the Syrians "were in shock over the assassination of Brigadier General Kenaan . . . excuse me, the suicide of Brigadier General Kenaan."

It was a Freudian slip of the tongue, and a similar mistake was made in London, when I called the offices of al-Hayat in Beirut to stop an article I had sent that morning. I said that I would send an article to replace it on the killing of Brigadier General Kenaan. It's a problem for al those who knew that he was not the type to commit suicide.

Hama rules still apply.

Maybe he just didn't want to bother anybody with a noisy suicide.

Or maybe he was actually trying to shoot somebody else quietly, but shot himself in the mouth by accident.

Or maybe he was cleaning the gun and silencer with a little saliva and it just went off.

Or maybe the regime is Syria is full of dirty scumbag tyrannical murderous thieves who are filling their shorts in fear at the moment that their time is almost up. they're getting desperate and even less competent.

What a bunch of grotesque morons. I am skeptical that anybody will miss this lovely General. I suspect he put that weapon in other mouths before it blew his own head off. Ah the virtues of the region.
