Steve Lonegan said what?
Earlier this afternoon, the Chris Christie campaign issued forth the following barb aimed at Christie's primary opponent, Steve Lonegan:
PARSIPPANY, NJ - Today, Chris Christie released the following statement regarding remarks made by Steve Lonegan where he stated that he would allow terrorist detainees from Guantanamo Bay be brought to New Jersey:
"As former U.S. Attorney, I think it is a disturbing and dangerous idea, that as governor, you would permit Guantanamo terrorist detainees to be housed in New Jersey. Over the last seven years, I have learned firsthand about the continuing threat of terrorist attacks. I have fought to keep our state safe by thwarting terrorist attacks and the idea that Steve Lonegan wants to open New Jersey's doors to these terrorists shows a lack of understanding and preparedness to protect New Jerseyans."
I have not located the video or transcript of the morning's debate (which I could not see despite the best efforts of both the Christie campaign and the League of Women Voters because the television station broadcasting the debate would not credential bloggers), but a Republican primary debate in New Jersey is not the smart moment to go soft on jihadis. If Lonegan even skirted the edges of saying such a thing he made a big mistake. Almost everybody in at least the northern half of the state who would vote in the Republican primary knew at least somebody who died in the World Trade Center, so whatever our politics we are disgusted by jihadis. We don't want their kind here.

I don't really want them in my NEIGHBORHOOD, but the thought of those pampered Gitmo residents, Koran passed to them wrapped by a Marine who has to wear gloves so as not to contaminate it etc.
Being dumped into the General population of some of our Max Prisons?
Gives me a sadistic sense of glee, they have no idea what BAD really can be.
Picture them running into someone whose Handle is Animal who ALSO had someone taken out by 9/11 that they cared about?
Jim from Old Tappan here, confirming that among Bergen County Republicans, this is a non starter...
