Britishisms we love

Rachel Lucas -- in a post that characteristically includes the word "dipshit" -- reminds me of a favorite British expression. In England, where the law has made it increasingly problematic to defend oneself or others from criminals, those who do are called "have-a-go heroes." I love that. It is so redolent of British understatement. "Well, you know, it was really nothing. The git pointed his gun in my face and I thought, really, I'd just have a go at him. Worked out quite well, actually."

Too bad the law of our jurisprudential forefathers affords them so little protection.
