Thinking you are Canadian, and being wrong

Canada has automatically restored citizenship to thousands of people who may have intentionally or unwittingly abandoned their nationality. This seems like an act of national generousity, although one wonders if new taxes come along in the bargain. That would be the result if the United States did this, because we tax on the basis of citizenship (among other considerations).

There is even an amusing and game YouTube video promoting the law, "waking up Canadian," which may be useful to some of the former or unsuspecting Canucks out there.

The TH Sister, who was born in Canada to our American parents, may well have just woken up Canadian. Given her interest in moving to single-payer health care, she might actually welcome it.

I tried so I could get some affordable drugs and healthcare what wouldn't literally bankrupt me, but no dice...

The TH soeur misses one point of co-pays and deductible.
In addition to reducing unnecessary visits, deductibles and copays incentivise healthy living, and they also reduce the amount the healthy have to pay in premiums to make up for the heavy users of services.

I'm almost with your sister on the insurance issue. And copays do nothing to reduce my health care usage. Ever tried to say no a few times to your doctor recommending tests?

Canada taxes on the basis of residence, not citizenship. Canadians living and working abroad don't have to file Canadian taxes.

Single pay aside, just want to say I loved that video. I'm still laughing!
