Stimulus question of the day

Is the end of Clinton era welfare reform the single worst thing about the giant stimulus bill that President Obama promises to sign on Tuesday? Until I see something palpably worse, I vote "yes".

Given the way it was rushed through without time for anyone to read the final version, I'm willing to bet we haven't seen the worst thing yet.

I'm with John on this one ... 1500 pages, and already the One is telling not to expect much from the bill we had to have or it was curtains ... he is such a lightweight, and this Presidency, while potentially disasterous for the country, is shaping up to be really fun.

I've girded my loins, and am hoping to remain employed . If not, maybe there's some crook I can go work for that's got 100s of millions set-aside in this bill. God knows there are plenty of them.

My bet's on the effective nationalization of health care.

So far, the worst thing by far is the health care snatch-n-grab. In my humble opinion.

The Stimulus Bill will accelerate the growth of our federal government. DC continues to suck in power and money from the rest of the country ... to our collective detriment. Spending by DC is even more politicized and less accountable than state and local government spending.

But as long as a sizeable percentage of voters are getting government checks funded by the rest of us, this will be hard to change. The Stimulus Bill promises to increase the ranks of these voters, which will make it even harder to change.

In this, Obama & Co are only building on what Bush & Co did while they were in power.

It's bad, but in a poll for "most horrifying part of the bill", the protectionism would probably have to get my vote. Tough decision, though.

Meh.

I'd rank both (1) the sheer size of this year's deficit spending and (2) the health care provisions above the welfare provisions.

In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the THREE worst provisions of the bill will turn out to be things we've never even heard of yet -- and which most of the legislators who voted on the bill have never heard of either.
