Head chopper

Sad to say, this falls squarely in the category of public relations that have backfired:

The founder and CEO of Bridges TV, a popular Muslim channel carried by many cable networks, has been arrested in Buffalo, New York, for beheading his wife.

I am a bad person, for I see the comedy in even this tragedy. Apart from the act itself, check out the quote of the day from the Erie County DA:
"Obviously, this is the worst form of domestic violence possible," Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said today.

Well, maybe in Erie County.

I need a little help with the social and religious aspects of this. I note that the Saudis decapitate people. Is there something about decapitation in Islam that we need to know about, or is it just that the cultural imperialists in the Western media only notice head chopping when Muslims do it?

If we set aside for a moment, the incongruity of the left's simultaneous attraction to muslim rights and women's rights, there are other issues we are going to need to get our heads around if we want to live successfully as apostates under the caliphate.

First and foremost in my mind would be accidental, inadvertent, and regrettable beheadings. Since muslim science is destined to remain, excepting certain forays into subatomic behavior, stuck in the 13th century, we the disbelievers are going to have to step up to the plate and solve the problems of reattachment.

Let's face it, with proper elementary school training, beheading is all to easy to do. It's going to happen a lot and there's no reason the innocent, those for example who show proper respect to their husbands, should suffer.

TH, I live approximately 50 miles south, yet somehow this piece of sad (if still amusing) news had not reached me until now.

All I can say is she looks to have been a beautiful woman and the bastard didn't deserve her any more than she deserved him.

Re: the cultural aspects of decapitating women.

There was a decapitation "incident" between two Chinese exchange students at Virginia Tech. This was a highly underreported story given that Virginia Tech is a locale not unfamiliar with sexually disturbed Asian men. just google "virginia tech decapitation" to learn all about it.

I thought this was the knee slapper:

Muzzammil Hassan is the founder and chief executive officer of Bridges TV, which he launched in 2004, amid hopes that it would help portray Muslims in a more positive light.

May God grant her the peace she deserves and found nought on earth.

I am always leery when muslims ask for some head. But then I must be a cultural misanthrope.

Yes, precisely, and just to be clear, that is what I too found amusing, not the decapitation, per se.

Before we all jump to conclusions, don't we first need an understanding of what she did? Maybe, she said something nice about George Bush or was banging a couple of Jewish guys.

1) I am not sure that the LGF headline is entirely fair with the use of the word "Islamist," which usually refers to fundamentalist extremists. The husband was trying to find his inner moderate -- he at least allowed his wife to be photographed without a full burqa on -- so perhaps "Islamic" would be better. Then again, maybe he reverted to Islamism.

2) If you want to kill someone, chopping off their heads is an extremely effective means of doing so. It's not like a bullet, that might miss or something.

3) One of my guilty pleasures in movies and also the TV series was Highlander, which tells the story of an Scotsman who is also an Immortal, born 400 years ago and who battles other Immortals by decapitating them at the conclusion of a swordfight (the only way and Immortal can die is by decapitation). So, decapitation does have some history in the West, even outside of, you know, France.

4) There have been moments when I was so pissed at my significant other that I felt like slapping her, though I never acted on that feeling. To actually decapitate your wife, I can imagine you'd have to be really really pissed off and have almost no self control, and perhaps have been raised in a culture that finds such violence somewhat acceptable. (Not that our culture isn't violent in a different way).

Yes, there is. Decapitation is the standard punishment for apostates in Sharia law. It is also the most common method of execution of Islam's enemies. As Muhammad's example is considered normative for all time, beheading is unsurprisingly frequent among Muslim murderers.

Note also there is no penalty in Sharia law for killing an apostate, even (amazingly enough) if the killer is Jewish or Christian.

As Muslims seem to apply Islamic norms wherever they are, and contemptuously ignore local norms, my bet is that his wife did something he considered un-Islamic, and he believed that gave him permission to murder her.

Beheading is an established and sanctioned method of execution in Islam and is specifically named in the Quran (Sura 47:4 for unbelievers, and Sura 8:12 for enemies in general), which in all likelihood grew from the practices of Muhammad himself, who seems to have favored decapitating everyone from prisoners of war to a Jewish tribe. I'm unsure how common the practice was in jahilliya arab culture.

Note: The linked article talks about Quran 47:3, but it really means 47:4.

Ref: 'Islamist' as extremists; that's from our perspective. To us, theocrats are extremists. To Muslims (given that Islam was both a religion and a government) it is a perfectly reasonable legal philosophy and doesn't necessarily mean the believer is or supports people we would consider terrorists. But it's likely,

Personally, I found the quote that it was the 'worst form of domestic abuse' somewhat amusing.

So, if he killed her by bludgeoning her with a baseball bat, or 14" dildo, would that be worse? dead is dead.

Peaceful religion. Got it. I await the protesters at his trial, arguing on his behalf for some religious mulligan.

They'll probably do what they did at another recent honor-killing trial and say that it was all the victim's fault, and that an Islamic court would have already acquitted him.

What makes this a tad bit more interesting is that this business and this killing took place not in Buffalo, but in a a little quiet suburb south of Buffalo called Orchard Park. You would be hard pressed to find a more middle American town where the biggest buildings are the Protestan and Catholic Churches. The town was founded by Quakers no less. It was one of the last stops of the Underground railroad as the fleeing slaves would escape to Canada. Aside from the fact that the muslim population in this little town was literally just cut in half; but the irony of how the Quakers are known for their passificism must be making the forefather's of this town turn in their grave...

Haven't noticed anyone else making much of a habit of it,

Have you?

No matter how many beheadings, stonings, or terrorist attacks there are, we must never fear, resist or mock the precious and ever peaceful Islam. Who are we to say that raping 9 year-olds is immoral? Who are we to say that stoning gays and rape victims to death is evil?

Who are we to say that killing hundreds of people every month in the name of Allah is the height of evil? That is just their culture and ideology and it MUST be respected. Morality is all relative, we must remember that.
