Richardson interruptus

Bill Richardson has withdrawn from consideration for Herbert Hoover's old job, Secretary of Commerce, on account of a whiff of scandal. Glenn Reynolds observes that the Obama transition has been a bit "rocky," but Steve Benen says it is par for the course. He makes a good point with the John Tower comparison. Memeorandum has a big round-up of the blogosphere, with right and left lining up pretty much as you would expect. For those of us on the right who have been on defense for the entire freakin' history of the blogosphere, it is at least a little amusing to see the lefty bloggers dredge up the excuses for which they mocked us during the last six years.

Anyway, my question: Is it just me, or was "competence at vetting" a big issue in the media and on the left back in September?

I wonder what the REAL reason was for his resignation? Obama carries 10 times the Richardson baggage without breaking into a sweat.

The real reason for Richardson backing out is easy! With all the lobbyists and bribe-takers and their relatives (Biden's son, Daschle's wife, Hillie's husband, Rangel, Dodd, etc.) already on Obama's Washington payroll, Bill thought he could make a lot more cash in New Mexico.

The real "failure to vet" occurred by the U.S. electorate prior to and including Nov 4th 2008.
