A viable distinction?

At the bottom of a wide-ranging post on CFL's, externalities and pigovian taxes Megan McArdle says:
The difference between "hands-on regulation" and taxation is the reason I prefer Barack Obama to Hillary Clinton. I do not pretend that Obama is perfect, but he is much less likely to favor increasing regulatory authority; his solutions tend to focus on transparency and simple rule changes rather than massive new apparatuses for extending state power.

True? It would be nice, and my mind is wide open. Discuss - I have a feeling it wouldn't support the assertion to start with their respective healthcare plans. People in New Jersey thought the assigned risk pool was a simple rule change as well. Here's a start, but I note that many of the problems cited here are very general problems with universal coverage (sort of like the owner of a Town & Country Minivan criticizing the Tahoe owner across the street).

Obama's kitchen Cabinet includes Paul Volcker and Warren Buffet...as well as SURPRISE!...Colin Powell. I think we'd be in good hands.

Well if you add up the costs of programs and "changes" Obama wants (or says he wants) it comes to over 250 billion dollars. Is he going to borrow that from China or raise taxes? Most likely both.

Our national debt, SS and trade are in the garbage now, Hillary or Obama would be the last straw, I doubt if this Nation could ever recover.

When the illegals or Islamists finally did take over, they wouldn't like what they had conquered and might just give it back to the stupid gringo Infidels.

And if Obama raises taxes during this period of slow economic growth, the economy will contract, and even less money will flow into the Treasury.

Also, Obama hiring Colin Powell? Not in a million years, Powell was too connected to the Valerie Plame Blame Game (Armitage was his subordinate, remember?) The Dems would raise holy heck, and there are plenty of nice loyal leftists for them to choose from to go play their games with Foreign Policy. He has "Advised" Obama, but if it goes much beyond a couple of news articles, I'll eat John Kerry's hat.
