The Virtues of an Israeli Pullout from Gaza

Are manifold. Since I've made a couple of oblique comments about bubbling confrontation between Egypt and Palestinian Gaza in the comments section, I thought I should probably clarify the referencing and commentary. Read this NYT piece summarizing the "chaos" emanating from the Gaza territory. You will note that the Palestinians are creating a new adversary -- not Israel, that's the old one -- now that they have been liberated from Israeli "control." That new adversary would be Egypt. Let's also recall that Egypt and Israel made peace in 1979 -- with Israel returning the Sinai to Egypt at that time, territory captured during the 1967 war.

What does this mean?

I think Sharon's genius was that he decided not to "return" territory to the Palestinians. They never really owned it anyway. Gaza was part of Egypt. In fact, the famed Yasser Arafat was, yes, Egyptian. I think Sharon's withdrawal from Gaza was his invitation to Egypt to come and join the party as guardian of the insane asylum. Sharon was so damn smart, he invited the Europeans to come and play border guard too. Watch perceptions of Israel change as these folks get to experience the local Gazans themselves, up close and personal. Who knows? Maybe Begin tried to get the Egyptians to take back Gaza in 1979 and they refused. This is a wretched place that nobody wants to govern. Musharraf has Waziristan; Egypt and Israel have Gaza.

So here it is. 2 Egyptian soldiers have died at the hands of Palestinian Fatah "brothers." What will Mubarak do? Well, he can either load up the Rafah crossing with lots of troops and wait for the day when he gets to mow down hundreds of Hamas, Fatah, PIJ troops; or, more likely, he can adopt Abbas as his local governor, arm him to the teeth, and let Abbas do the work with Egyptian muscle.

Thankfully, Sharon lasted long enough to complete this mission. The rest will take care of itself. Ultimately, Israel could not govern the Arabs in Gaza. Egypt can. Overtime, Palestine will be a protectorate of Egypt, with whom Israel shares a treaty, interests, and their biggest joint ally. Now it can be Mubarak who takes responsibility for the lunatics in Gaza. He has no choice. They are as compelling a threat to him as they are to Israel.

Add to this the rumors that Al Quada has been busy establishing a presence and building an arsenal in Gaza with the intent to wage open war on Israel. There is talk of high explosives, and massive stockpiles of weapons flowing into Gaza. Of course, AQ hates Israel, but Egypt is on its list of territory to be acquired for the Caliphate also, and any qualms AQ may have had about attacking "fellow Muslim arabs" have been extinguished in the Iraqi theatre.

Now it turns out that Israel can defend its borders, but Egypt cannot. What's going to happen once the wall goes down for good, and Egypt is unable to control the border? Watch for a wave of suicide bombings and car bombs to explode over Egypt. If that happens, and Egypt starts to suffer increasing numbers of civilian casualities, Mubarek will lose interest in "managing" Gaza and take more of an interest in simply wiping it off the map. Forget Abbas. He's history. He never controlled anything. He has already failed and Mubarek will not waste his time on him. Especially when the Egyptian blood starts flowing through the streets of Egypt.

I expect the first genocide of 2006 to be in Gaza. Israel's role will be to simply clamp down its border, and to provide a safe viewing vantage point for the western media who have gathered expecting to watch Israeli atrocities against the innocent Palestinians, and are going to witness an arab-on-arab bloodbath instead.

Everyone is overreacting about this latest crazyness.

It should be clear by now that the Palestinians are split up into many various factions, all of then insane with the desire to get more for themselves and to spew their hatred at anyone not giving them what they want.

Part of the problem is they are too ignorant to know what they want, other than to destroy the Jews.

The PA, Hamas and other terrorist factions there including aQ only control their own little 9 yards and not even that all the time.

Its kinda like watching the the inmates in the day room at an insane asylum.
Each is living in their own little world, acting out their terrors and fantasys, sometimes bumping into another inmate and snarling and hitting and cursing.

Gaza is going to be a combination of an ward for these insane maniacs and a killing ground for all.

Just be patient, Egypt will allow more arms, terrorists and explosives to go in and will try and keep the inmates inside.

Its going to be a good show, watch it.
