Silly boycotters

A country of 4.6 million people is in a political struggle over whether to boycott another country of 6.3 million people:
"It is a long time since I bought any Israeli products," she told Norway's Dagbladet newspaper.

How would she know?

Is this an attempt by the Norwegian political class to placate their Muslim population?

I note that in the 2006 Index of Economic Freedom, Norway is the only Scandanavian country not to be considerd "free" -- only "mostly free."

Scandanavian rankings:

Iceland (5)
Denmark (8)
Finland (12)
Sweden (19)
Norway (30) -- tied with Botswana and Portugal.

Boycotts are a measure of lack of economic freedom, if they ever get to the point of government policy. Should that happen, Norway might fall down below Israel itself (36).

(USA is tied for 9 with Australia and New Zealand.)

The country write-ups are interesting reading.
