European Sharon-ophiles?
this article from the Associated Press, of all places, which included what seemed to be genuine concern about Sharon's condition and also seemed to reflect genuine appreciation for his accomplishments. This from a media outlet and from European leaders one would not, let's say charitably, typically associate with warm feeling for the Israeli warrior, diplomat and leader.
Yes, well, what can one say? European leaders do seem, throughout history, to appreciate Jews much more when they're at or near death than when they are alive. It is, after all, why there is an Israel in the first place, right?
Roger Simon pointed out
French President Jacques Chirac, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin sent Sharon wishes for a speedy recovery.
Chirac said he hoped ``the courageous initiatives that Mr. Sharon embarked on - which were praised by the entire international community - will continue.
Yes, well, what can one say? European leaders do seem, throughout history, to appreciate Jews much more when they're at or near death than when they are alive. It is, after all, why there is an Israel in the first place, right?
