Pat Robertson, shut your pie hole!

US evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution for "dividing God's land" of Israel, igniting his latest trademark controversy.

Man, Robertson is truly the Howard Dean of the Republican Party. He is becoming increasingly unhinged, to the delight and glee of Bush opponents, and of course the media loves to portray him as a "leader" among conservatives, right before cataloging his lunicies:

Robertson, who ran for president as a conservative in 1988, and often urges supporters on his show to support President George W. Bush, frequently unleashes rhetorical hand grenades.

In October, he said a recent spate of natural disasters pointed to the end of the world and the imminent second coming of Jesus Christ.

In August, Robertson said the United States should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, but later apologized for the remark.

He also suggested voters in a Pennsylvania town should not expect God's help should they face a natural disaster after they ousted a school board which had mandated the teaching of creationism.

Last year, he suggested that the threat to the United States from liberal "activist judges" was "probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings," a reference to the September 11 attacks.

He has also lambasted Disneyland and the United Nations.

via Drudge, the whole pitiful thing is here.

As Glenn Reynolds reminds us, Pat Robertson was one of the earliest "idiotarians" designated by the righty 'sphere. Making jackasses look smart.

I think Pat is our punishment. Now we just have to figure out what the (*&^ we did.

A wacko is a wacko. Ultimately the political spectrum is more spherical than linear...hence the wackier they get, the more notions of "left" and "right" become meaningless. Guys like Buchanon, Dean, Robertson, Nader etc wind up having more in common that anybody would ever surmise -- and its amusing because they can't even look at each other. Thank Goodness.

Of course one main difference is that Howard Dean actually IS the leader of the Democratic Party, while Robertson is just portrayed as such by the MSM.

Very good point. I'm amazed at how many people try to say Robertson "speaks" for the RNC, and I keep saying, "Hey - we all think the guy's looney tunes - he's way fringe-element".

Every time he opens his mouth, half the righty blogs roll their eyes and tell him to STFU. How many of the lefty blogs do that with Howie-boy when he says that Rethugs are hateful people and we all lie and never work a day in our lives?

Ummm... yeah.
