Winners and losers

Tom Galvin has a fairly amusing list of "winners and losers" following Wednesday's election. "Goose hunting" is a loser, for example, which is pretty hilarious if you think about it.

I add, as an afterthought, that Jane Smiley is also a loser.

It is truly astonishing to watch the sheep bleating louder and more desperately than ever. In between whining that Bush is going to load up the USSC with right wing anti-abortionists, they insist (as does this article) that they were right and that supporters of GWB are just morons. Even when challenged on the decision to ignore the research and push for gay marraige, they insist they did the right thing. All 11 states that put it to their voters elected to bar. I heard a statistic that 80% voted against gay marriage, cutting a broad swath in the electorate.

With all the talk about "red states" vs. "blue states," what is missing is the reality that many of the "blue states" (such as New York) are drenched in red. The losers can wail and gnash teeth for the next 4 years, but if they don't work on finding a coherent message that speaks to the people outside of their rarified little atmosphere ... well, as they say, those that do not learned from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them. There are a lot more people in Kansas than in Hollywood!
