Polling in Charlottesville, VA

Local radio and work colleagues are reporting the largest lines ever seen at
the voting precincts here in Charlottesville, Virginia. I plan to head over to the polls sometime around 11:00, after morning rush but before the lunch rush. I'll post an update if there is anything worthy to report.

Update: 2PM
I voted. I waited in line for about 20 minutes, which is the longest I've had to wait here in town. It looked like about half were first time voters, probably UVA students, and one of the reasons for the line was that they needed lessons on the machines, or with paper ballots (which were offered as an option for the paranoid). I don't recall every standing behind more than one or two people at this polling place, but I was in Munich in '04 and voted absentee.

I have to say the Obama get out the vote apparatus is working overtime in my neighborhood, which is overhwhelmingly pro Obama to begin with. We had two door hangings in the past 15 hours, and a kid came to the door when I was home around noon to see if anyone needed a ride to the polls. Based on this purely anecdotal and subjective observation, I will be shocked if Virginia doesn't go Blue.

Of course the good news is that we'll be loved again around the world and the seas will cease their rise, or so I've been led to expect.

Not that it really matters, but in the suburbs of Dallas, the lines are non-existent.

We voted early in Nothern Virginistan. Got to the elementary school at 0530 and there were about 50 people already in line. Usually we're fifth in line. When we left, there was a line snaking down the hallway of the school, but nobody was waiting outside. All but a couple of people were over 45.

Daughter #2 checked in from Hanover NH today, where she is a freshman in college. She's voting there because her vote counts more than it would in the big bad blue state of NJ. She voted at 1 PM, along with two friends (McCain voters all). No lines. Poll workers said it has been slow, "as usual". The students don't seem to be turning out, there at least.

As long as they continue to ebb and flow. Tide is everything!
