It is over
I, for one, welcome our new Democratic overlords.*
MORE: Yes, as I wrote this morning in my "hopes and fears" post, Barack Obama will be my president. I will not seek to delegitimize him, and I hope that he leads America to ever greater greatness and prosperity. I hope he makes us more free, more safe, and more rich.
That said, I had an impish idea.
If I were George W. Bush, sitting there on the sidelines, sucking on my teeny-weeny approval rating, in fact unwilling to bomb Iran or nullify the election or use the NSA to spy on domestic enemies, I would nevertheless have a little fun tomorrow morning. Yes, I would pardon Barack Obama for any violations of federal campaign finance law or regulation, particularly as it might relate to taking advantage of the small donor loophole. I might also throw in a pardon for any offenses that have arisen, or may have arisen, from Barack Obama's dealings with Tony Rezko. You know, to help President Obama avoid the partisan investigations and prosecutorial witchhunts that plagued both the Clinton and Bush administrations.
I crack me up.
One more thing. Can we say his middle name now?

I expected an Obama victory, and even I'm not ready to call it yet. Fox has called several states where McCain is currently showing a 10 point lead. (New Mexico...)

Is life possibly politically symmetrical?
Bush, Lott, DeLay.
Obama, Reid, Pelosi.
How and when will the pendulum swing back?

OK, so is this a “throw the bums out” election or a “major realignment that will lead to Democratic domination for a generation” election?
I vote for the former. The red/blue maps so far look pretty much as they have for the last two elections. Obama has flipped Ohio and probably will flip Florida, so he wins. But he is not crushing McCain in the popular vote (despite the shocking lack of support he received from our esteemed blogmeister). It seems that major realignments should come with greater swings in the electoral college map and the popular vote total.
So I find a small pony in all this. “Throw the bums out” works both ways.
I, for one, expect perfection.

Good call.
I want my socialist paradise, god damn it!
(I'm quite drunk)
What a bunch of sore losers and whiners! I guess the country found conservativism wanting. HAR HAR HAR!

The AP has Mitch McConnell winning re-election. The Democrats probably will not get to the magic filibuster-free number of 60 in the Senate. This is really good news.
P.S. To hear lefty (I suppose)call us sore losers and whiners is pretty funny.
Urp!
Harry Reid is now speaking about a mandate for hope and change and reducing the things that divide us (like our different net worth, for example).
I bet 500 quatloos that Harry, Nancy and Barack are feuding by the 4th of July, 2009.

Our Democratic Overlords can kiss my ass.
To add insult to injury, AARP "found me" today.
Goddamn.
Goodnight.

If I had even a small thought that the liberal/left had learned from history, had learned from their previous excesses, I wouldn't be so glum.
But I see nothing in the current manifestation that indicates to me that they have any understanding of the limits of the power of the state.
So be it. This is their day to celebrate.
Congratulations and good luck.

"What a bunch of sore losers and whiners! I guess the country found conservativism wanting. HAR HAR HAR!"
Really? This from the same group of piss ants that bitched and whined and moaned for years about Rovian conspiracies, and the shredding of the Constitution, and a fascist police state in the making complete with martial law? (none of which ever panned out)
The same group of people that threatened to move to France and Canada not only in 2000, but in 2002 when the Republicans gained seats *and* in 2004? (but never did)
The same group of people that cheered and clapped when Michael Moore and company talked about how Iraqi terrorists were 'Minutemen' and 'revolutionaries' fighting against the imperialist oppressors? (but who 'support the troops')
Fuck you and and fuck everyone like you. I've more class than you assholes, at least. Obama will be my President, duly elected according to the formula set down by our founding fathers.
I only hope that he exceeds expectations.
And it's spelled 'Conservatism,' you jackass. Look it up.
Can one say that the US is now an obamanation?

My prediction: The world doesn't end. America stays strong. Problems will be faced and fixed. The anit-Obama extremists will fade into the background and people will realize he is a president like any other president.

I once had hopes that the anti-Bush extremists would fade into the background and realize he was a president like any other.
So much for that idea.

CP - I am old enough to remember the damage Carter did, which I am expecting will look pretty good after this next round is done, so no, I don't expect "America stays strong. Problems will be faced and fixed."
I also expect that "The anit[sic]-Obama extremists will fade into the background and people will realize he is a president like any other president." in about the same time those who had Bush Derangement Syndrome took to get over their problem, oh wait....
I believe the standard procedure at this point as I understand it is to talk about moving to another country.

I have flown an American flag on the front of my home for about 22 years. It wen't up before the wallpaper and before I had a lawn.
I took it down tonight.
We have placed a Marxist ideologue in the most powerful seat in the world...and we will pay dearly for it.
The Senate and the House are directed by kindred ideologues. One can only hope that their level of stupidity and incompetence continues to paralyze their effectiveness...but somehow I doubt it.
I will store the flag out of respect to generations of Americans who have sacrificed and died for the American way of life.
I refuse to honor Mr. Obama by displaying the flag during his presidency. He stands for nothing that our founding fathers toiled to create.
Hopefully it will fly again in four years.
Obama is NOT my President. He is a racist, lunatic Marxist, who hates Whites. His Wife is just like him. Both the Affirmative Action entitled and resentful lunatics.
I wish Obama nothing but the worst, and hope for him to experience nothing but pain and misery.
I will treat him the way Liberals and Dems and the Media treated Bush.
I will hope for his impeachment at every turn, and deride him as the first Affirmative Action President. An incompetent clearly not capable of leading the nation.
When electricity rates skyrocket, as he said they would, I will blame him and call for his impeachment. When Israel is nuked off the map, I will blame him and call for his impeachment. When Iran or Pakistan or whoever nukes an American city, I will blame Obama's weakness, hatred of Whites, and America, and blame him for it while calling for his impeachment.
In the meantime, I want a special prosecutor appointed to look into Rezko, Saddam, Auichi, and his campaign and himself arranging his Aunt's illegal activities and crimes, along with covering it up.

Hah. Good catch.
I meant in regard to graceful defeat, in that I manifestly will not be like the legions of whiny leftists that have screamed and cried and cooked up ever more elaborate conspiracy theories to explain how their progressive, enlightened candidates lost elections.
Those people are assholes, and fuck them. I still mean that. I'm not *that* classy. But when the bar is set so low by your opponents, it's almost hard to not step over it.

Keep digging, Dawnfire
By Georg Felis, at Thu Nov 06, 02:09:00 PM:
If Dawnfire is digging, then I'm right beside him until we get a nice comfortable foxhole to survive the next four years of idiots. What he was referring to, that you are oblivious to, is the legions of lunatic leftist idiots who are willing to believe *anything* other than reality that contradicts their worldview. Look at the collection who believe Bush Really Lost in 2000, Troother 9/11’s, Evil Karl Rove Controls the Universe, The Press is Really Biased Right-Wing, Criticism of Obama is Racism, Foreign Governments Hate Us Only Because of Republicans, etc… We don’t believe that Obama won the election thru a closet conspiracy of zombie squirrels controlled by the secret Annenberg World Socialist Legions for Cthulu, we’re pretty sure he won because more people voted for him than McCain. And our observations during this administration, as opposed to the nutty Lefts during the last administration, should be based in fact and observation.
Example: Obama has just selected Rahm Emanuel for Chief of Staff. Strange, for somebody who was looking forward to Hope and Change, to select as his chief political right-hand man, a political and policy aide in the Bill Clinton’s administration, and a noted partisan attack dog. This does not bode well for any attempts by Republicans for compromise legislation.
