I finally understand the financial crisis

Regular readers know that I've been on a journey to understand the current financial crisis. Well, that journey is at an end.

An American member of al-Qaida pointed to economic troubles in the United States as proof that "the enemies of Islam" face defeat, in an English-language video released Saturday.

In a half hour video message, California-native Adam Gadahn urged Pakistanis to unite against their government and U.S. forces, and taunted Americans over their economic crisis, relating it to their military interventions.

"The enemies of Islam are facing a crushing defeat, which is beginning to manifest itself in the expanding crisis their economy is experiencing," said Gadahn, in a clip of the message distributed by the SITE Intelligence Group, a Washington-based monitor of militant Web sites.

"A crisis whose primary cause, in addition to the abortive and unsustainable crusades they are waging in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq, is their turning their backs on Allah's revealed laws, which forbid interest-bearing transactions, exploitation, greed and injustice in all its forms."

Well, it is certainly true that if nobody borrowed money we would not be in this mess. Yes, we'd be living in caves and have a GDP per capita of around $400, but there would be far fewer insolvent financial institutions!

And what is it with these traitors? First there was John Walker Lindh and now this clown. What are the odds that chance alone would result in both of them coming from California?

Based on CA's population, somewhere in the 2% to 3% range...

Approximately (37/300)^2

Both of them were home-schooled. Calculate the odds of that happening.

When I see what Sharia law prescribes, I don't think their definition of injustice matches mine.

Well, it's tempting, easy, and fun to bash CA. But one could ask, why didn't these clowns come from Mass? Or Ann Arbor? Or Seattle?

As for myself, I'm going to take comfort that there are so few of them.

Now that says nothing about the fellow travellers in the US who sympathize with these loathesome vermin, and are too cowardly to go join the fight. But America has always had its share of cowards - so long as we also have more than our share of heroes we'll be fine.

Wow, he actually follows the "usury" prohibition? Almost none of them do (though, of course, almost none of them are in that position).

That's not true, actually. The entire concept of "Islamic banks" of the style that dominate the Middle East (which have recently started to crop up here in the States) are designed around that very prohibition.
