Ski paradise

We had a wonderful day today touring Toledo -- Spain, not Ohio -- with an extremely knowledgeable and delightful guide. Along the way she mentioned that her husband was a business school professor who specialized in the tourism industry, particularly winter sports tourism. Without prompting or revelation of any kind from me, she also mentioned that he writes an English-language blog devoted to his passion. "Ski Paradise" is all about skiing, all the time. If you think you might go skiing this winter, go to the main page and just start scrolling.

Note that the blog's author and his wife the tour guide are going to Whistler in British Columbia this winter. So you might want to start there.

Heh. At Whistler-Blackcomb (about 10 years ago), my first real turn of the first morning came after a 15 foot drop into a compression gully (down hill, left to right, about a 50-degree slope). Then the turn had to be sharply to the right because about 15-20 yards after the compression gully there was a nearly vertical rock face/wall. The run was narrow, 45-50 degree slope, heavily mogulled. I was the first person to make that drop and turn that morning (of the people I saw attempt it) - the four folks who I saw go in front of me all yard-saled hugely. What a rush. Great resort, town, ski mountain(s), scenery, people, restaurants. Lots to do for skiers of all skill levels.
