Obama on the "surge"

You have to hand it to Barack Obama. He has absolutely astonishing brass:

The troop surge in Iraq has been more successful than anyone could have imagined, Barack Obama conceded Thursday in his first-ever interview on FOX News’ “The O’Reilly Factor.”

But it was not more successful than everyone could have imagined.

Just what we need - a CINC without the ability to read the tea leaves.

Doesn't it defang an opponent when you take away their argument by agreeing with it? Can't Obama point out that McCain voted to go there in the first instance and that wasn't such a good idea. Being grateful the plan to extricate ourselves from the mess is working acknowledges the undeniable, while preserving the credability to say we shouldn't have gone to begin with.

If he hadn't spent the last, oh, year preaching about how the surge was a failure, then yeah, that would have made sense.

What credibility is to be had in clinging to a position that would have left Iraq, not to mention the entire region, to the tender mercies of Saddam and his psychopathic coterie?

So our policy now is to invade any country if we don't like their ruling party, or if we think the region would benefit from a violent change of leadership? When do we invade North Korea?

By Blogger Dawnfire82, at Thu Sep 04, 11:15:00 PM:

Because North Korea has 8,000 artillery tubes in hardened bunkers along the border, waiting for the order to completely level the city of Seoul, not to mention most of their their million man army.

Please leave foreign policy to the professionals; if you really think invading Iraq was about 'not liking him,' you're beyond hope.

"So our policy now is to invade any country..."

Not any country but a country that declared war against us. There are only few of those.

"...When do we invade North Korea?"

Immediately after North Korea crosses into South Korea again.
