I am relieved that Sarah Palin's teleprompter was working
Apparently the story that Sarah Palin's teleprompter failed mid-speech is a myth, although I could not successfully click through Glenn's link to the source.
I, for one, am relieved for at least two reasons.
First, I would hate to think that the McCain campaign would be so incompetent as to allow that to happen.
Second, I would be forced to send my children to the University of Idaho, which has not heretofore been in the mix.

Dang. And here I was hoping that would become another "Sarah Palin Fact."

Via Fox News:
“The Alaska governor overcame several glitches and technical problems to deliver her speech without getting flustered, impressing McCain and his staff and allowing them to breathe a sigh of relief.
Foremost of the obstacles, Palin’s teleprompter was not working properly. When she took the podium, the machine rolled so quickly, it often skipped the first line or two of every paragraph on screen. The operator said he had new equipment and wasn’t sure how it would work.
However, Palin also went on stage with a slightly outdated hard copy of her speech. For various unexplained reasons, she and her closest advisers had an old draft on hand, and even had a hard time furnishing one of those for her to use. Several of the drafts were scribbled on, so one aide gave Palin a wrinkled, folded copy out of his pocket.
Officials said Palin responded in mom-like fashion, concluding, “Well, I suppose I could put a book on it and smooth it out a little.”
During one part of her speech, she couldn’t see the teleprompter because signs were blocking it. That was when she ad-libbed a line about the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull — “lipstick.”

Covering for a flubbed line by ad-libbing dialog -- the woman is a natural actress.
Conservative ... actress... Did Reagan have a child no one knew about?
She seems to be a Republican version of Ann Richards.

"Did Reagan have a child no one knew about?"
From Michael Reagan, son of Ronald Reagan:
"I’ve been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we’d never see his like again because he was one of a kind.

I would hope she would be able to deal with a bad teleprompter - she used to be a newscaster!

By way of belittling her performance?
Brit Hume, for one, was impressed. Said tonight he did not think either himself or any of his cohorts--nor another politician--could have performed as brilliantly as Miss Sarah did under those same conditions.

Hey, don't knock Idaho U. My son's a graduate after leaving NJ for the great west. Ain't nothing wrong with that school (that isn't wrong with many schools) except 1-It's in Moscow and 2- Their football team really, really stinks. (Somehwere around 115 out of 120. Lost 70-0 to Arizona last week.)

Oh, and Gov Palin seems to have learned a heck of a lot more about journalism there than those folks that went to Columbia J School.

Not picking on the University of Idaho! Just saying it was not in the mix... :)

I have 7 cousins who either have, or will, graduate high school in Alaska. University of Idaho is one of a handful (Colorado State is another) of colleges Alaskan graduates can attend under an "exchange" programs of sorts, where they get to pay in-state tuition. At least 2 of my cousins are Vandals. Others are Buffalos. Can't remember what other colleges are options.
Anyhow, one of my cousins is married to a man she met while at Idaho. He was a journalism/poli-sci major. He currently works as a political reporter in the Northwest. He really likes Obama, but what I've read of his reporting, he does keep things "fair and balanced". I told him that if he's getting blasted from both sides as being in the tank for the other, he must be doing things right... Now, if I could just convince him how wrong he is about supporting Obama...

I am not intending to belittle her performance. I thought it was outstanding. But I for one am not shocked that a sitting Govenor, someone who has been in elective office off and on since 1992, and was a television journalist before that, is able to do a darn good speech.
The media pundits who seem amazed that she isn't a total rube show more of themselves then anything else; both the right side of the aisle - what is it with The Corner and Powerline - and the left who are just deranged at this point.
I can't remember where I saw the comment that there are an awful lot of bodies littering the Alaskan political landscape of people who underestimated Gov. Palin.
She did great, but then we really shouldn't be surprised - she is a very accomplished public servant.
