Financial chaos FAQ

Via Greg Mankiw, here is a very lucid FAQ on the financial market turmoil of the last ten days.

Mankiw posted an interesting interview with Allan Blinder and Harrison Hong where Hong gave the analogy of the Japanese asset bubble - trillions of dollars or overvaluated property - that burst in the nineties to our situation.

As a result, there was sort of a "Groundhog Day" aspect to the Japanese economy where, while there was no major disruptions or failures, a daily no-growth economy that muddled along resulted.

Right now, I'd settle for Groundhog Day II.
