Gunning for McCain
Well, when the anti-McCain propaganda comes rolling through the airwaves, Republicans will have to admit that they were warned:
Wealthy Democrats are preparing a four-month, $40 million media campaign centered on attacks on Sen. John McCain. And it will be led by David Brock, the former investigative reporter who first gained fame in the 1990s as a right-wing, anti-Clinton journalist....
"We're a little behind where we need to be," he said.
But after a dinner Tuesday night at the Manhattan apartment of liberal megadonor George Soros, at which Brock and consultant Paul Begala laid out the group's plans, Brock said his group now has commitments worth $7.5 million — almost twice what the Fund for America is expected to report raising in the first quarter of this year. He said the group would begin running ads before it meets its $40 million goal.
With "liberal megadonor George Soros" bankrolling the effort, we can be sure to expect more of this sort of thing. Anything less offensive would frankly be disappointing.

There's no question that the Dem 527s will have significantly more funding than their Republican counterparts in 2008. But do they really want to throw the first punch? Maybe, but it ought to be a more meaningful jab than the "McSame" ads run in Ohio. The Republican 527 ads have already been done by amateurs on YouTube mash-ups, with the key Wright (GD, AIDS), Michelle (first time proud, mean country), and Barack (100 years) quotes juxtaposed. The Dems might have more to spend on ammunition, but the Republicans have pretty deadly weapon platforms. It's a recipe for a lot of blood. Also, if the Dem 527s go in the direction of the "Betray Us" ad as you (jokingly?) suggest, TH, someone ought to figure in the potential backlash to the ad before it is run. I wonder if, with the benefit of hindsight, MoveOn wishes it had not run that ad now.

Nah. Liberals are all about 'truth to power.' If people disagree with their messages, it's just because they 'can't handle the truth.'
