Nicely said..

...in Megan's comments again:
The state is a road grader, not a hedge trimmer. It does very poorly when asked to enforce strictly moral issues. It lurches and sputters trying to find a balance, some sane equilibrium....and yet, often enacting sweeping pronouncements but with spotty and sporadic enforcement of laws that shoot fleas with bazookas.

Apart from the above and a few others, the comments in the linked thread largely consist of a lot of moralistic sniping at Megan for supporting legalized prostitution (as I do). It is surprising how many people will take high-handed moralistic positions against the "personal degradation" of prostitution while drooling out personally degrading speculation and fantasy about Megan.

Self-righteous prigs.

Amen. It's sad that thoughtful, articulate blogging is typically accompanied by such spurts of empty tripe consisting mainly of cheap attacks and personal insults. I feel Dominique saying to Roark, "they don't deserve to read you".

Interesting, but perhaps not so surprising.

Yet isn't it so, well, American (as is our hype/product/marketing/ratings culture these days) that the ho in question (I call her a ho...apparently if you are white and your tricks involve govenors, senators, CEOs, lobbyists, you're a "call girl")is now a celebrity, hiring a literary agent (my agent's old partner also's in the hunt), an entertainment lawyer, has her face plastered all about the Net and TV and in print? Lovely. Piss on Spitzer, sure, but this ugly by product isn't what we need right now.

PS "Mindles" your bane Obama was about to float some intell that Spitzer was going to join the Cabinet in a Hillary regime--perhaps AG? Therefore, give the brother a chance...and Ferraro's a on pussbag. She was dad wrong, and even she knew it. She new it in Nov. 1984...

Hmm. The 90%+ of the prostitutes I encounter in emergency psych consider that their actions were a degradation they were driven to by poverty or drug addiction, rather than a career move. While I admit that there is a selection bias in that group, I'm going to guess it's not a negligible part of the total.

When one imagines only the best possible types of prostitution, it is easy to see it as victimless, elective behavior. Is that representative of the life of prostitutes as a whole, do you think? And if not, how do we determine where the line is between victim and entrepreneur?
