Attention New Jersey taxpayers
Enlighten New Jersey very helpfully explains how and why our tragic joke of a state budget has ballooned in the last ten years. I would add that the New Jersey budget has increased 7% a year for more than a decade, far in excess of the rate of inflation plus population growth, all while debt service has declined as a percentage of the total.
None of this is surprising. New Jersey's governments, state and local, are unbelievably yet obviously inefficient, or "inefficient."
When I was a teenager back in Iowa City, I remember declaring with great confidence that "the federal government should not do anything that the states can do instead." My father, who had grown up in the East, peered over his glasses and said that I "wouldn't have that opinion if I had ever lived in New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts." Wise man, my father.

Funny, the State of Florida was arguing that very point before the Supreme Court in Gore v. Bush and I don't recall you being so strident about state's rights. hehehe. Lord, you sound like some member of the Mississippi "Sovereignty Commission" back in '63...
(on a related note Ralph Nader was up on Georgetown's campus not long ago, finally admitting that he "might" have had something to do with the dullard-in-chief's election in 2000. Hmmm...Bush wins Florida by 537 votes. Nader gets 97K votes in Florida. I guess you could say he's right)

It's easier to move from state to state than from country to country. As a Floridian it really irks to hear stupid leftist canards about the 2000 election. Gore could not win so he tried to cherry pick counties find "votes" that were disqualified. After evey county was rechecked he still lost. The court ruled correctly. The rules in place before the election are the rules an election is held by.
