UPDATE: Closest answer here. Not homemade, and the offending device was a microwave oven.

The top object looks like a leather shot filled bag used to hold blueprints or artwork in place. This might be one of those with a plastic knob to make it easier to pick up and move.

An overcooked homemade pita. They puff up that way when they come out of the oven.

Greenman is right. It's sitting on a snowglobe/paperweight. Be careful when you open that pita because the steam is very hot.

Though, it might be the metaphoric foot of the GOP elephant trying unsuccessfully to crush the bright promise of John McCain. No doubt, it's the far right foot as the rest of the Republican Party has become invisible.
