A traitor has died

A traitor has died, which I would regard as good news if the milk of human kindness did not flow through my veins.

Philip Agee, a former CIA agent who exposed its undercover operations in Latin America in a 1975 book, died in Havana, the Cuban Communist Party newspaper Granma said on Wednesday.

Agee, 72, died on Monday night, the newspaper said, calling him a "loyal friend of Cuba and staunch defender of the peoples' struggle for a better world."

His widow, German ballet dancer Giselle Roberge, told friends he had been in hospital since December 15 and did not survive surgery for perforated ulcers.

Somebody should tell Michael Moore about the high quality health care that Agee got in Cuba.

Sorry, I could not resist.

There is also an opportunity to pick on Reuters for this story, which bears the curious headline "CIA whistle-blower Philip Agee dies in Cuba." Journalists usually reserve the term "whistle-blower" for do-gooders -- the metaphor, after all, refers to the policeman or the referee who alerts us to a crime or foul. No doubt, that is how Reuters regards Agee, who published the names of the CIA's operatives in Latin America and probably cost some of them their lives.

"and did not survive surgery for perforated ulcers."

And we note it wasn't like he was at some Christmas party and was suddenly stricken. He was already in the hospital, and they still couldn't pull off the surgical equivalent of getting a tooth pulled. And ten bucks says it was infection that knocked him off, not inadequate surgical skills. Slackers.

"Somebody should tell Michael Moore about the high quality health care that Agee got in Cuba."

Bwah-hah! Hey, banner day in the RW blogosphere:

- Michelle Malkin actually cracked a for-real joke, complete with smiley face.

- TigerHawk actually said something snarky.

- Mindy actually considered writing about something besides boring economics. He didn't -- but at least he considered it!

- A certain co-blogger (I wouldn't want to mention any names, but his initials are M.I.N.D.Y.) actually used a hip, kewl-dood expression, like "LOLcats" or "teh", on the blogsite of a Princeton graduate. In this case, one of my favorites, pwned!

- Famed video god "Dr. Murky" is the first to raise the possibility that using such hip, kewl-dood lingo on a Princeton graduate's blogsite is an underhanded effort by a loyal Yalie to drag the site down to the level of Fark.com. Sources close to Dr. Murky say that he wasn't sure until his team intercepted a critical email between the Yalie and an old dormmate where he proposed changing TigerHawk's current banner to this.

According to sources, the fact that this was an original Dr. Murky LOLcat made it personal. "I'm not one to hold grudges," he told CNN cameras, "but this appears to be a clear example of why bloggers should be licensed. Two days ago, this was a priceless work of art, available at only one high-end studio. Now, thanks to people like the Yalie and his nefarious band of Eli misfits, it's worth nothing."

I think he's got a point!

Good point, TigerHawk, although I'm sure that more people would have heard if Castro would have let the citizens of Cuba have paper to write it on.
