Thank you John Roberts: The Supreme Court takes a shot at the strike suit bar

Any day when Linda Greenhouse writes a paragraph like this is off to a great start:

Ruling in its most important securities fraud case in years, the Supreme Court on Tuesday placed a towering obstacle in the path of shareholders looking for someone to sue when a stock purchase turns sour.

Thank you John Roberts!

One of the things I like about Linda Greenhouse is that she tries far harder than most reporters to disguise her political views. She might well have written an entirely different paragraph that characterized yesterday's Stoneridge decision as a miscarriage of justice. Does anybody doubt that her editors at the Times would have published it? Instead, she lightly hinted that most strike suit plaintiffs are sour-grape eaters, which they manifestly are. Yes, she is a liberal (as anybody who has seen her on "Washington Week in Review" well knows), but she is a liberal with an open mind.
