I've heard of "Plastic Jesus," but Muslim Jesus?

Whether or not it rains or freezes, I don't want a Muslim Jesus hanging on the dashboard of my car.

A director who shares the ideas of Iran's hardline president has produced what he says is the first film giving an Islamic view of Jesus Christ, in a bid to show the "common ground" between Muslims and Christians.

Nader Talebzadeh sees his movie, "Jesus, the Spirit of God," as an Islamic answer to Western productions like Mel Gibson's 2004 blockbuster "The Passion of the Christ," which he praised as admirable but quite simply "wrong".

"Gibson's film is a very good film. I mean that it is a well-crafted movie but the story is wrong -- it was not like that," he said, referring to two key differences: Islam sees Jesus as a prophet, not the son of God, and does not believe he was crucified.

I think Christians should riot in the streets, overturn cars, screw up their faces in rage, burn down Iran's embassy, and threaten to blow up any theater that broadcasts the movie. That would prevent this sort of thing from happening.

I don't know about the riots and other violence, but if a major distributor decided to release the film over here, I'd bet a dollar to a donut that plenty of evangelicals will screw up their faces and do some threatening.

Hence, no car burnings, mosque burnings, nor the burning of the Iranian, or any islamic country's, embassy here. In fact, crimes, of any color, against muslims are exceedingly low in this country; despite the propoganda to the contrary. One would hope that enlightened people, as muslims purport to be, would recognise and emulate this behaviour.

We in civilized countries reserve our rioting and auto-burning for successful football/soccer victories and other such events critical to our civilized thinking.

I think that soccer substitutes for religion for these people. They're all birds of a feather, really.

Yes, but what have they got to keep them from getting scary when they're going ninety?

And is the pedestal made of abalone?

TH, Your visceral reaction to a "Muslim Jesus" shows an appalling ignorance of Islam where, as the article states, Jesus is one of the most revered prophets of the faith as are other familiar names like Abraham and Moses. Seeking to expand the common ground between Islam and Christianity, when there actually is some, is no reason to have the tantrum your inner child suggests.

OregonJon:

It is blasphemy to suggest that Jesus Christ was anything other than the Incarnate God.

It is blasphemy to suggest that Christ was not crucified for all our sins.

You pointed failure to understand why this is offensive reflects an appaling ignorance of Christianity.
