A blogger retires
The Oxford Medievalist is shutting down, which is a shame for the rest of us. It is especially a shame for me, since he is my only known blogson, and I did not even know that until today.
Some people I owe a special thanks and debt of gratitude. Sister Toldjah, who's blog I read every day for the past eleven months and who became a good blogging friend of mine, the guys at Maggie's Farm who honored me with links on their outstanding blog, and TigerHawk, who's own blog got me into blogging in the first place. I consider his blog, pound-for-pound, to be the best one out there.
Me blushes.
I respectfully invite any of you who feel the same way to click on the "Blogger's Choice Awards" logo on the right sidebar and vote for TigerHawk. There is a quick registration, which I hope will not get in the way...

"The Oxford Medievalist is shutting down"
His swan song didn't really make sense. He's shutting down because he's lost interest in politics (just as it's starting to get interesting -- go figger), but the hitch seems to be that he's talked himself into thinking he's somehow obligated to post every day. I'd just tell everybody that I'm only going to post when I have something interesting to say, and if not many people continue to cruise by, so what? It's not a commercial venture. Whether three people or three thousand stop by shouldn't matter in the slightest.
And you know how human nature is. Once he officially signs off, something will pop into his head and he'll be just dying to make one more little post. But after the third or fourth "Oh, just one more little thing!", it's going to seem as lame as a Barbra Streisand farewell tour.

Your ultra-wide 'Yahoo!' picture knocked it off the screen on a standard 1024-wide monitor using IE. I mean, even the little slide gadget isn't there. It shows up when flipping to 1280-wide, but then I have to haul out my 3000X electron microscope to read the text.
It shows up in Firefox, which, coding-wise -- given the ties between Google and Firefox -- isn't surprising. On the other hand, 4% of the browsing market isn't much if you're looking for votes.
BTW, speaking of that Yahoo photo, I have two questions:
1. Why didn't you just cut out the part you wanted, and maybe the 'Yahoo' part of the header? Displaying the entire page doesn't mean anything. It's not any kind of 'proof'. Anything can be photoshopped these days. And if you don't have a fancy digital graphics imaging studio like Photoshop, the free MS Paint program will crop pics quite nicely.
2. I did some research on that company that promised you could "retire in your 30's with these insider tips". Actually, I have to agree with you, it looked like a fraud. They had very few "tips" listed. Only three, in fact. Here, I jotted them down:
March 3, 1995: Put every dime you have in a company called "Yahoo!". Don't laugh, just do it!
September 24, 2001: Sell Yahoo, put every dime you have in a company called "Google". Don't laugh, just do it!
Those are the only two entries up until just recently, so it appears you're correct and the feds should obviously look into these nefarious activities. In the complaint on SmokingGun.com, one person claimed that by following their advice, he had only increased his net worth by 18,500% over the past twelve years. He was suing for damages and lost income, of course.
Oh, and the recent entry? I wasn't sure what to make of it:
December 6, 2007: Sell Google, put every dime in a company called WeDaBomb! Don't laugh, just do it!
Gosh, what could have happened in the last couple of days that would cause them to recommend we invest in a construction company??

Strange. I'm running IE and the page displays fine even with the wide Yahoo picture. Sorry about that.

You have my vote, TH. While I don't always agree with your politics, I read your blog regularly because of your thoughtful analysis, which you manage to present without drama, insult, or tireless threats of hanging up your blogging shoes.
Keep up the good work.
