My day so far...

[This post has turned into a live-blogging of the thrilling second half of the Princeton - Harvard game.]

I rose at 6:30 so that I could drive my son to school for a work detail, punishment for a minor transgression with no mens rea. Fortunately, it was also Parents' Day at the George School of Newtown, Pennsylvania, so it was an opportunistically efficient day for the Son to serve his penance.

Unfortunately, the morning of parent-teacher conferences and ancillary events kept me from most of the first half of the Princeton - Harvard game. I did catch the second quarter on WPRB 103.3 FM, but the last thing I heard as I pulled into the Spring Street garage was Princeton's starting quarter going down with a game-ending injury.

Imagine my delight, having run from downtown to the stadium and having sprinted to my seat (in, of all places, Section 8), to see the Tigers score just before the end of the half to extend their lead over Harvard to 24-14.

Photos from halftime and further updates later.

UPDATE: Harvard scored at the end of a 92 yard drive, bringing the score to 24-21, but Princeton moved the ball to the Harvard 22 in the second play after the kickoff. After penalties, the Tigers are 2nd and 20 on the Crimson 31 with 7:25 left in the third quarter.

UPDATE: Does Blackberry live-blogging jinx the Tigers? Princeton threw an interception which Harvard returned to mid-field, after which it drove for a touchdown. With 3:55 left in the third, Harvard is up by 4, 28-24.

UPDATE: With 4:37 left in the 4th, Princeton scored a touchdown on a short pass, capping a 60 yard drive following a pass interception. The drive was kept alive at one crucial moment when Harvard was called for taunting after a 3rd down stop. I think that is a lame call in a rivalry game, but in this case it was partial recompense for a taunting call against Princeton in the first half, which penalty gave the Crimson first and goal on the 4.

Now Princeton has again intercepted a Harvard pass (just after the kickoff), so the Tigers lead 31-28 with the ball on the Harvard 20.

UPDATE: Harvard blocked a Princeton field goal attempt, but Princeton picked a tipped pass at its own 47 to stop the final Harvard drive. Final score: Princeton 31, Harvard 28.

Wow.

Looks like the Yale-Princeton game in two weeks could be a big one for the championship. Should be a good matchup, even if Princeton is ranked and Yale isn't

Yale is, of course, Princeton's great bane. Princeton finds ways to lose to Yale that have no precedent in college football.

You never know what might happen between now and then. For instance, it's possible that all of Yale's most important imapct players will harass a local shopkeep again and land themselves in jail. Stranger things have happened

How many interceptions does that make? "Can't anybody here play this game?"
