Well. This is going to be just about the bloggiest lawsuit imaginable. If I get trafficky chills just thinking about it, what do you think this news will do to Tom Maguire? The discovery alone should be fascinating.
MORE: Apparently, among other counts, Plame is going to accuse the defendants "and other White House officials of conspiring to destroy her career." In light of $2.5 million advance Plame has pre-earned for the book she proposes to write, the damages case should be particularly interesting.

I am not a lawyer, but I can't expect that this is a smart move by Val.

Perhaps in a few years Joe Wilson will be able to write a best-selling sequel to his original tome, entitled "The Politics of Self-Perjury."

It's interesting that a number of people who should have only 15 minutes of fame have figured out how to extend their lucrative celebrity for considerable periods. If you can become a hero of the partisans on either end of the political spectrum (especially if you can make a colorable argument that you are a victim of the evil other side), there's a clear opportunity to keep the game going.
Evaluating this lawsuit as a legal matter, it would appear to be ill-advised. TH, you make a great point about the damages problem. But as a publicity move, it probably makes sense. When Wilson and Plame are poured out of court, they will be martyred anew. And purely as a matter of ensuring future time in the limelight, it's brilliant. This case will very likely be stayed pending the outcome of the criminal case against Libby, so the one thing we can count on is that Wilson and Plame will not be out of the news for quite a few years to come.
