India rises, and identifies a role model
A reader sent me a link to an Indian broacaster's web site. It contains a comment field where you can register your support and sorrow for yesterday's bombings in Bombay (now referred to Mumbai). The comments themselves express India's rage, and reveal the new popularity of a certain tiny country in the eastern Mediterranean:
I just want the terrorist whoever..wherever they are that they have failed to terrorize US mumbaites….WE ARE NOT SCARED OF YOU…YOU ARE SCARED OF US COZ YOU DO THIS IN THE SLY…. -- Neeti Saklecha Mody
Indian goverment needs to follow the Israel Policy ,just destroy the mother land of terrorism.... -- Rishi
I dont understand what they gain by bombing innocent people. So many people have lost their dear ones. The people who have planted the bombs should undergo the pain all the people are going through. My heart weeps for all who have lost their dear ones. The police should not leave any terrorist to go scot free. -- Gopakumar Nair
What is our Intelligence agencies for, when they can't do anything against any terrorist. Just follow Mossad's Principle - " SEEK AND DESTROY " terrorist or any other country before they can raise their eyebrows against INDIA and INDIANS. I salute Mumbai and its People . Government should realise now that its time for some "ACTION". -- Rkseth
When will our government awake from its slumber? We should take a cue from Israel and demolish all hideouts of terrorists wherever they are. We have crossed all limits of tolerance. If we can not take action, better we should quit and hand ove the reins of this country to terrorists. -- A.Bhardwaj
I wonder why we are speding billions and billions on missiles and nuclear warheads when we have no guts to use them. Take lesson from Israel for one soldier they have bombed whole country. Vaporise these cowardly shamless creatures from this world. -- Amit
It is indeed highly inexplicable and unpardonable the dastardly act of terrorism committed by the perpetrators of 7/11.1 They deserve no mercy and should be punished in a manner that would serve as a deterrent. India for long has been treading the path of peace and i guess its time we give a fitting response to various terrorist groups operating from within and outside the boundries of our nation. We should follow what US did to the Al-qaida post 9/11. -- B. Rajesh
Every time the jihadis blow somebody up, or incite riots over a cartoon, or chop somebody's head off, people look to Israel.
It will be interesting to see whether India's elected officials can avoid retaliating for this barbarity. One can only sympathise with the call to strike back at terrorist camps in Pakistan, but that would be dangerous for everybody. Nobody needs shots fired between nuclear powers that hate each other's guts. However, India will certainly crank up the pressure on Pakistan to beat up on jihadis, and the United States will be right there cheering it on. Pervez Musharraf will have to toss us a bone, if only to get Washington and Delhi off his back. Watch Pakistan.

"perpetrators of 7/11"
I bet Joe Biden thought that was funny too.
I am not particularly surprised by the reactions shown by Indians. This bombing is only the latest in a long line of attacks, and the Indian state has rarely shown any retaliatory action, only to invite more terrorist activity. And the fact remains, whoever is responsible for this particular event, that the Pakistani state retains a network of terrorist capabilities to use against India. There is ample evidence of that.
Of course the need now is for cool heads, but even after the emotions settle, it is likely that people in India are going to demand a more robust response this time from their elected government. And who can blame them, when the architect of the 1993 Mumbai bombings Dawood Ibrahim still lives and operates openly in Pakistan?
