My humbling brush with greatness

A couple of days ago, I wrote a snarky post about a certain elected official, proposing a question that one might ask of him. This morning, I ran right into the target of my snark, and totally wimped out. I deserve to be the Wanker of the Day. Details here.

I don't know why you'd be embarassed about being polite to somebody...even if you hate his guts.

I'm pretty much just goofing. But there's a small point in there somewhere about our reduced willingness to confront in person.

For what its worth, I used to work for the new Gov Corzine as did TH's very close friend and business partner. He is in fact a pretty self effacing guy, not terribly articulate, and a little uncomfortable in public.

He was in his working days though a huge risktaker and moneymaker. He put Goldman on the path to becoming a public company, which enriched him immeasurably more than he already was. Then he was run out of Goldman because his risktaking on LongTerm Capital nearly cost the Firm its opportunity to get public.

Not bad for a humble fella from Illinois. I don't agree with him on very much (and would note he has an embarrassing recent history in his private life), but would simply say America's an amazing country.
