Saddam III

John F. Burns from the NYT writes a concise piece on today's trial events. Most interesting - Saddam didn't show up today, he boycotted. Probably a bad decision by Saddam (of course we know he's committed a few of those now, don't we?) Result? His co-defendants began to "distance themselves" from him, according to Burns.

Good idea.

It appeared to me that Saddam, when confronted with the horrors of the Kurdish crackdown, couldn't handle hearing the truth. He's bailed out despite his propensity for grandstanding. The truth is really getting to him.

We can only hope the same sort of attack of conscience strikes our leaders...

Screwey - they're talking about Dujail, not the Kurdish situation. Dujail is nothing compared to what Saddam did up north. they'll get to that later.

And I think you're projecting. He has no conscience. He's boycotting in defiance of the concept of the rule of law government of and by the people. He is a despotic savage. Given the opportunity, he would do it again, and worse.

As to your moral equivalence bit of foolishness in your paritng comment, I can only say that every time you say something ridiculous, you destroy your credibility. There isn't a single US leader, republican or democrat, who bears any resemblance, or should have any attack of conscience, on the order of Saddam Hussein. Absurd.

I hope both him and RAMSEY CLARK are held in contempt of court
