The Joseph Smith Bicentennial
Whatever one thinks of the Mormon religion, it is astonishing that a poor farm boy from Vermont was able to build a church of profoundly devoted worshipers -- people who would endure tremendous persecution, and who chose to settle one of the most remote and inhospitable places on the continent rather than revise their beliefs.
