Good news from the Arab world!

Two quick notes.

First, a leading Iraqi Sunni cleric, heretofore thought to have ties to the insurgency, is calling for an end to the bloodshed. It may be dawning on him that al Zarqawi's sectarian war on the Shia and the Kurds will end very badly for the Sunnis.

Second, the Saudis seem to have a growing problem with boot-legging!
Recent reports in the local media giving details of raids on illegal wine factories across the kingdom have caused controversy and shocked conservative Saudi society were alcohol is banned.

This would be unadulturated good news but for the fact that it's, er, adulturated:
Further searches of the property provided details of how large quantities of wine were being produced, using heavy machinery to process the grapes, rat carcasses to accelerate the fermentation process, as well as sewage water and a several banned chemicals.

Arabian vintage 2005: A undertaste of coffee and humous, with a crisp rat finish. Best with lamb.
