At the Hitchens-Galloway debate
Baruch College is not used to this kind of turnout. There is a huge "will
call" line, and I am near the back of it. All kinds of lonely pamphleteers
are out here with their propaganda, including the ludicrous "911 Truth"
group (www.911truth.org) and a cute and perky girl handing out a
single-spaced multi-paged white paper on Galloway's Oil For Food
connections, complete with set-up questions. The "Worker's World" types are
in evidence, and the conversation around me is manifestly anti-war. This
is, after all, East 23rd Street. More later, if I ever get past the
farookin' will-call window.
