Republicans for President in 2008

It's very early, but indicators are beginning to point in George Allen's direction. I don't know him from Adam, and am curious what others might think. George Will seems to have unveiled him as his early favorite in this piece from the Washington Post last week. And Allen has moved into a frontrunner position on Tradesports.com, an oddsmaking site which has a focus on politics, neck and neck with John McCain.

McCain doesn't strike me as a winning bet, simply because he is too inconsistent and unpredictable, and likely to be too old in 2008. Allen, a Virginian, former Governor and current senator, and son of the former Redskins coach, has a pretty powerful resume to take on Clinton or Kerry.

Hey, there's a war on - and it will outlast this term. Might as well get a fix on who might be picking up the reins in a few years.

Didn't realize that Warner was a former Governor. That definitely makes him the frontrunner on both sides of the aisle...

I've had my eye on Allen for a long time because I'm a die-hard Redskins fan who leans to the right. I named my blogspot "Counter Trey" in part because it is an offensive line formation created by Joe Gibbs back in the 1980s; it is also supposed to signify that it contains ideas that run counter to the MMM.

In numerous interviews that I've seen, George has said all of the "right" things. It won't hurt that he is responsible for the fund raising that led to the Republican retake of the Senate.
