Did NBC ban Ann Coulter?

Drudge is flashing that NBC has "banned" Ann Coulter because of the claims in her new, just-released book (which Amazon informs me shipped today), adding the improbable quotation from an unnamed NBC source that "We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now, [i]t's such a downer. It's just not the time, and it's not what our audience wants, either." Allahpundit notes the network's bizarre serial denials, including that they swapped Ann for Perez Hilton (who has also published a book) because of the presumably sobering war in the Middle East, and smells the essence of rat:

Media Matters pushed them to cancel but there was no nutroots groundswell that I’m aware of. They knew what they were getting when they booked her considering what happened the last time she was on and her tendency to refer to The One in interviews as “B. Hussein Obama.” Scheduling her put them in a spot where they’d either have to go through with it and spoil their new liberal Olber-brand or cave and be ridiculed endlessly for lefty pandering by O’Reilly and Fox. So, er, why’d they do it? And why would someone at the show give a quote that juicy to Drudge knowing what he’d do with it, given that he’s a friend of Coulter’s and dependably promotes her books whenever a new one drops? Anyone else find this strange/stupid, even by NBC’s standards?

The "war" excuse is, by the way, literally right out of standup comedy. Comedian Todd Barry has a great routine about Victoria's Secret declaring that they were toning down their styles "on account of September 11" (listen to part of the routine here). Is NBC's excuse any different?

MORE: Ann's book is ranked #13 on Amazon, so the controversy is having the usual unintended consequences.

MORE (Tuesday): Never mind.

"usual unintended consequences"

This kind of stuff seems to be a standard Coulter marketing tactic. The whole routine is getting stale.

I just read this great blog on the humor site freedomhaters.org about Al Franken versus Ann Coulter.

At one time they were head-to-head political rivals, now Franken has got his place in Senate and Ann Coulter is banned from NBC. You should see the Coulter videos of her lowest moments.

Check it out here:
