A picture of Irene hitting Virginia

From my Facebook news feed...

Irene hitting Virginia

Very curious -- from this distance the surf does not appear too dramatic -- perhaps it is a sheltered area -- but the arc of the clouds is unmistakable.

"And, Obama calmed the waters..."

OTOH, it looks like a scene from "Independence Day" where the clouds signal the approach of a massive alien battleship. Paul Krugman's fondest wish could be coming true.

And if you squint a bit you can see the guy on the surfboard in the middle of the bay yelling "Hey guys, come back! It's just a little wind!"

It is a photoshop fake. The same supercell was used as a Katrina picture. See
www.snopes.com/photos/natural/storm.asp
or extremeinstability.com/04-5-28.htm

It's not the same as the ones on those sites. Could be Photoshopped, especially since the waters are so calm.

Not a fake, but not Irene either. Evidently it is a photo of a thunderstorm approaching Pensacola harbor on Aug. 10: click here

Well, it is Pensacola with the Pensacola Bay Bridge to Gulf Breeze. Been down it a few times.
