Syria channels Eddie Murphy

Israeli commandos boarded a ship off the coast of Cyprus earlier this week with three thousand missiles and other arms on board, with containers on the ship clearly labeled as Iranian, and it is apparently a clear-cut case of an arms shipment to Hezbollah being interdicted.

Netanyahu on the action:
"Whoever still needed indisputable proof that Iran continues to send weapons to terror organizations got it today in a clear and unequivocal manner. Iran sends these weapons to terror organizations in order to hit Israeli cities and kill civilians," he said in a statement. "The time has come for the international community to put real pressure on Iran for it to halt this despicable activity and back Israel when it defends itself against terrorists and their patrons."
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, speaking from Tehran:
"Unfortunately, some official pirates in the seas, sometimes in the name of the navy, sometimes in the name of inspection, obstruct trade movement between Syria and Iran," al-Moallem said a joint news conference with his Iranian counterpart.

"This ship does not carry Iranian weapons to Syria and does not contain military material to manufacture weapons in Syria. This ship carries imported goods from Syria to Iran," al-Moallem added.
Which brings to mind the wonderful "Wadn't Me" Eddie Murphy routine about the husband seen by his wife as he leaves another woman's house.

Eddie Murphy mocks an absolute denial of witnessed reality that has a chance of working because the party you seek to influence wants to believe you (or, in this case, disbelieve those opposed to you, meaning Israel). Audacious indeed, but business as usual in the Middle East.

UPDATE: Purple Avenger over at Ace has the Sky News video of the ship and the story, and a blog headline with a fecal matter word in it (NSFW).

Most profitable path for Israel: Confiscation. Strip the ship down to the bare paint and lock up all those nice presents the Syrians purchased for the Israeli army. And don't forget a nice thank you card to the Iranians.

As both the Syrians and Hezbollah deny that the arms are theirs, the Israelis can keep them without any claims for compensation. Are they any use for Israeli forces?

The peaceful goods and the ship should be sent on their way. Then Israel is fully legal.
