TARP stain

This morning, Allstate announced that it would not seek or accept TARP funds. At this writing, its stock is up 6%. Government involvement is obviously unattractive from the perspective of the stockholders, something to be avoided if at all possible. You know, in case that were not obvious to those of you who still think this should be called a "bailout."

I'm glad.

Otherwise I would cancel my Allstate policies and move to another company.

One can't do much. Someday there may be no other companies.

Or maybe we will be told we can't cancel. (Sort of like the proposed national health insurance.)

Companies which take government money will also get permanent partners. This time the surge of government isn't going to subside; it is intended to be forever.

Loansharks and Mafia help you out too. At first.
