The Seattle bar scene

In case you are in the Seattle area and have no plans Saturday night, and really like low-brow skank culture, this might be of interest to you.

But it's probably best to leave your middle school or high school aged sons at home.

To me, this isn't funny, it's offensive.

The woman has to be quite messed up ... I'd figure the 'event' to be a real freak show, attend if you're a voyeur perhaps.

In my HS, there were seniors in relationships with new teachers ... 18-19 year old with a 22-23 year old. Not anywhere near as kooky as a 34 y/o mom and a 12 year old, or whatever this kid was.

That's why this post is offensive. Just my opinion but it isn't possible to turn sex with children into a joke, and I think this poster should be ashamed of himself for trying to do so.

Anon 3:56/5:42 -

I regret that you were offended by the post.

Here is my thinking:

1. Parts of our culture have been in a slow train wreck pretty much all of my adult life.

2. The AP chose to do a short piece on one of the notable cars in that train wreck, and it caught my eye as something that should be shunned. Paradoxically, we have to be reminded of something before we can shun it.

3. Humor is one of the best weapons we have against true evil (child molestation, genocide), which Mel Brooks has discussed at length as to the underlying thinking for some of his routines and writing in the 1960s and 1970s (The Producers, parts of Blazing Saddles, "Hitler on Ice" skit). By ridiculing something, we don't necessarily help the direct victims, but it enables us to make the perpetrators seem smaller and banal.

Again, I regret that it offended you.
