Manhattan geography quiz: Where am I?

Here's the view from the window of the room where I will be most of the day. What building am I in?

The view from my room

Apologies for the lack of actual photographic quality.

Well, that's St. Patricks, right? So, what's across Madison...Helmsley Palace, I think.

Bingo! Only it is the New York Palace Hotel now...

I'm not sure of the building, but yeah, somewhere around E. 50 and Madison, Park. Now I can call in the airstrike before your escape. ;-)

Oops, too late. I didn't know the Palace existed.

Well, not before he gives me my free beer for being right CC. He owes me one for guessing another photo some months ago too, so that's two beers. No airstrike until I get my beer. That's the rule.

Damn!

I only know this because I worked as a grossly overpaid banker on Park and 48th for many years. It was our tradition, when not putting our shoulders to the wheel, to take a walk at lunchtime for the purposes of electing "Miss Lunch Hour", and the walk involved a crisscross trot up Park or Madison to 52th, generally a move over to 5th to check out the Rock Center hordes, and back to Park on 50th, before heading back into the coal mines. Very pretty girls in midtown Manhattan on a beautiful spring day....

Well I'm late to the party, but noticed immediately it was the New York Palace. Years ago my inlaws visited us in NYC and this looks exactly like the view they had from their hotel room.

THawk: late to this pre-prandial moment , so I'll just add a wee bit o' history....if I am correct , that building - after it was converted from gilded age mansion-status became the headquarters of Random House whilst Bennet Cerf was running that publishing house.
